Better communication starts with listening

What improv can teach us about being better communicators | 2 min read

🎤 There’s nothing that’ll shut a conversation down faster than telling someone how they feel 🎤

Remember this line from Tane Danger whenever you’re in an uncomfortable conversation (or about to join one).

We need more connection, especially now.

At home, at work, at doctor’s offices, in hard conversations that happen everyday.

This Minnesota Public Radio episode with Angela Davis has so many practical tools and lessons from improv to help us communicate better:

🌟 Be present and listen, without judgment
🌟 Say “yes, and” to build connection (not “yes, but” aka Minnnesota-speak for “no” 😂)
🌟 Start with curiosity and meet people where they are
🌟 Good communication helps us learn and grow

This matters everywhere. Especially in healthcare–where too many patients don’t feel seen or heard.

Better communication builds trust, and it's trust that will shape better health, experiences, and long-term engagement in the system.
